Te Hauora O Te Hiku O Te Ika Trust (the trust) is a charitable trust established in 1997. It is mandated by, and has representation on the board of trustees from the five iwi of Ngati Kuri, Te Aupouri, Ngaitakoto, Te Rarawa and Ngati Kahu,plus two community representatives. GP Services:
The trust
was originally established as a nurse led health provider. It developed a general practice service in 2003, Te Whare Hauora, based at the trust
's main office in Kaitaia and established a second general practice, Mamaru Clinic, in 2005, located at Coopers Beach. We are currently employing medical practitioners, the medical positions would accommodate long term locums, and there is incentive for overseas doctors who wish to immigrate and gain residency. The intention of the trust
is to offer effective and accessible primary health care to the Far North community focusing in particular on the high needs of the Maori community. As such the trust
has adopted a multi-disciplinary approach to health care incorporating: health promotion; home support; mobile nursing services; advanced chronic care nurses, cardiac specialist nurse, mental health and respiratory nurses; dental health education; breast-screening; smoking cessation; maternity and breastfeeding support; a community health worker; practice nurses and General Practitioners, as part of its move towards a one-stop-shop for health care.
