Health Promotions – ICAH/Korikori-a-kaumatua
Our Aim The programmes identified are developed and delivered to meet the needs and wants of Kaumatua Kuia O Te Hiku O Te Ika. To enhance the vision of wellness, and empower kaumatua towards a better healthier lifestyle. Awhinatia he kaupapa Maori hei oranga mo nga kaumatua. Our service is to provide kaumatua with the opportunity to design, develop and participate in community activities. Our goal for kaumatua is to live longer and enjoy a better quality of life. In addition, we strive to reduce health inequalities for Maori and people on low income.
Objectives
- Ngawha haerenga – This is a one day activity each month that brings kaumatua together from all over the rohe. The time spent at the Ngawha, kaumatua will participate in karakia, whakawhanaungatanga, mihimihi, waiata and soak in the rongoa of Ngawha. They also receive mirimiri and hear korero on healthy nutrition.
- Takutai moana haerenga – This one-day activity takes place in the summer months of the year. Kaumatua can enjoy fishing off the beach, swimming, gathering kai, walks along the beach, whakawhanaungatanga, waiata, karakia, korero and Tai Chi. The program gives the kaumatua a sense of independence as well as being active and creative.
- We are open to new ideas for future programs that can benefit our kaumatua and kuia. We welcome any suggestion that you may have and we look forward to your feedback.

- Kaumatua/Kuia in the Te Hauora O Te Hiku O Te Ika geographical area.
