FIVE IWI CONFEDERATION

What is the Five Iwi Confederation? This refers to the five iwi located within the Far North: Te Aupouri, Ngati Kuri, Ngai Takoto, Ngati Kahu and Te Rarawa. Our Board of Trustees comprises one representative of each iwi along with community representatives.

What are these benefits?

  • Reinforcing Whanaungatanga (relationships);
  • Relationship strengthening between iwi (tribes);
  • Certainty and a politically stable environment for planning purposes;
  • Trust's services operate unencumbered throughout Te Hiku O Te Ika (Tail of the Fish);
  • Economies of scale;
  • Avoidance of duplicated administration and services;
  • Ability to deliver a multi-disciplinary approach to health care more efficiently;
  • The most effective model for delivering any service in the Tail of the Fish.
