Health Promotion

Our Aim Health promotions and preventative health programmes are planned and delivered to inform whanau of health risks associated with Maori lifestyle. We target nutrition, physical activity and smoke free (auahi kore) environments.

Objectives

  • To focus on whanau health and wellbeing;
  • To provide and support whanau to physical activity programmes;
  • To provide nutrition guidance;
  • To provide support for whanau who want to be smoke free.

Programmes Include

  • Waka Ama;
  • Ruku Kai Tika (fishing, diving, seafood gathering and pig hunting);
  • Hikoi ki te maunga (walking our mountains);
  • Karate/Tai Chi (self defence and self discipline);
  • Cooking kai tika (eating & healthy cooking classes).

Eligible Clients

  • All whanau aged 18yrs plus
  • All communities in Te Hauora O Te Hiku O Te Ika geographical area.
