Health Promotions – Mental Health Destigmatisation

Our Aim We are working towards creating a nation that values and includes people with mental illness by reducing the stigma associated with and the discrimination experienced by people with mental illness. Whakaitia te Whakawhiu i te Tangata.

Objectives

  • Empower individuals with experience of mental illness to gain equality, respect and rights;
  • Put Mental Health on peoples personal agendas;
  • Educate people about mental illness;
  • Promote greater understanding, acceptance, and support for people with mental illness;
  • Change the public and private sector policy to reflect the above;
  • Communicate the above effectively with all key groups in New Zealand, including people with experience of mental illness, statutory agencies, GPs, health agencies, other government agencies (such as Housing New Zealand), and people with other disabilities.

Eligible Clients This service is available for all whanau, iwi and hapu of Te Hiku O Te Ika.

How do I access this service?

  • Workshop/Presentations are delivered to interested groups, agencies and work places. They are free and tailored to meet needs of participants.
  • All presentations are co-facilitated with a person who has public speaking training and experience of mental illness.
